Free VoIP Phone Numbers Now Legal and Available in South Africa

Phonehome.co.za has launched its new VoIP service website where users can register and obtain their own VoIP phone number. A VoIP phone number allows an IP phone or any other SIP compliant VoIP device to make and receive VoIP calls.

Once users have a IP phone number, they can place calls to other IP phone numbers free of charge. Calls to international destinations start at R0.20 / minute.

Thanks to the changes made to the Telecommunications Act, the long-awaited legalisation of voice over IP is finally a reality for South Africans. Phone call costs for South African companies and individuals are set to drop.
